LAKE LANIER FISHING REPORT
click photo for the story on flwoutdoors . com
Glad to get the season started with a win at the flw bfl on lanier! with the tough conditions on the south end due to the cold weather and shad kill we've had, the river sections of the lake have been the best lately. I stick to areas that are showing the warmest water temps , and we've done best on moving baits lately like z-man chatterbaits, jerkbaits and some on under spins with small swimbaits. I use a 7'5 gloomis 894 jig and worm rod on the chatterbait and swimbaits, and a shimano expride 7'3 cranking rod for the jerkbait. both rods teamed up with a 6:3:1 shimano chronarch with 15lb seaguar invisx.
the spring dates are filling up quick, don't miss out on some of the best fishing lanier has to offer ! each year in april and may, fishing is very consistent and a great time to catch numbers of fish!
congrats to my co angler david garren for grabbing the 3rd place trophy with 4 fish for over 13 lbs!

the first bassmaster southern open on lake toho is in the books and the season is underway! the event didn't go as well as I would've liked with a slow start on day 1, but a rebound on day 2 gained some much need points heading in to the second event on the Alabama river. with a finish of 77 out of 200 anglers, qualifying for the 2016 bass elite series is still in reach but will take two strong finishes in the next events.
next up is the hammonds fishing center, winter trail classic this weekend on lanier and 2015 flw bfl bulldog series.
the lake level is back up after the recent rain we've had and the usual winter patterns are in full swing. deep ditches with timber and presence of bait have been the most, consistently productive areas. We've been keying in on the timber line around 40-50ft of water. You want to keep your bait selection simple until you dial in on what they want on a given day. A jigging spoon, either chrome or painted, a drop shot and 1/2oz jig is all you need for timber fishing.
the lake level is dropping and the fall fishing is ramping up! as the water temps start to fall, the herring raise up near the surface and it offers some of the best topwater and swimbait fishing of the year on lanier!
recent trips have been great for consistent action throughout the day, with several different patterns working. throwing moving baits over brush and humps has been the best for both spotted bass and stripers. the fish have been holding near 20-30ft of water near the main river channel.
there has also been a strong shallow bite around docks and blowdowns in both of the river arms. focus on areas in 4-8ft of water with topwater baits, jigs and shakey head.
the 2014 bass northern open season is finished up and it was a great experience fishing for smallmouth up north! with a 6th place finish in the overall points, I am looking forward to fishing the opens again next year and having a shot at the 2016 Bassmaster classic and earning a spot on the bassmaster elite series.
bassmaster northern open
lake champlain, ny
the second bass northern open is wrapped up and what an incredible fishery lake champlain is?! if you ever want to catch 3-5 smallmouth all day long... that is the place to do it!
each of the three days i used a combination of a Carolina rig, drop shot and swimbait to catch 9 fish for 31lb 8oz, just 9 ounces shy of the win! thanks to several great draws, i finished the event in 2nd place and moved up into 3rd in overall aoy points.. one tournament to go on lake st clair, Michigan at the end of the month!

the past few weeks have been great! the fish have really grouped up in some big schools out deep and it sets up for some great trips using a variety of techniques. We have had some great trips lately using live bait, drop shots, topwater and a 1/2oz fish head spin fished on deep dropoffs and brushpiles.
the neat thing about fishing in July and august, is that it also allows for some great shallow fishing as well. a good number of fish will cruise the banks in certain areas where the bluegill go to spawn. a topwater, small swimbait and a 3/8oz big bass baits jig are all you need to catch a big one up shallow!
water temp - 80 water level - full
the typical summertime patterns are starting to work well, with the majority of our fish being caught 18-25 ft on brush . the topwater bite has been hit or miss but you have to keep one close by. the ones we have been getting on top, have been good ones. the most consistent bite has been a jig and worm in the brush, and we have had several trips lately with the best 5 spots going 17-20lbs.
water temp - 74 water level - full
the fishing on lanier is red hot right now and there are variety of different patterns working! we have had some incredible trips lately throwing z-man zinkerz and turbo crawz on 3/16oz jigheads. Most of the fish have came from less than 15ft of water on rocky banks and points on the south end of the lake.
the topwater fishing is starting to pick up and I anticipate it to be on fire in the next week or so. Many of the big spots are recovering from the spawn and heading out to the usual summer brush piles. When the fish start to concentrate out deep, the can be a blast to catch on swimbaits, crankbaits and drop shots.
water temp - 52 water level - full
over the past 2 months, the weather has gone back and forth between warm and cold, and has kept the fish in the prespawn phase for longer than usual. There are strong patterns both shallow and deep, but 12-18ft seems to be the magic range for big spots and largemouth. Suspending Xtreme Lure Creations jerkbaits, Big Bass baits 1/2oz jigs and Z-man Diezel Minnowz on a 3/8oz fish head spin has been the best baits lately. On the sunny days reach for a 3/16 Z-man Jigheadz teamed up with a Sprayed Grass Zinkerz.
April is just around the corner and the bass will be on fire! we have a few days left in april, give us a call for a great time on lake lanier.
myself and tim hawkins with Hammond's fishing center in cumming, were fortunate to get some big bites this past weekend in the cabela's north American bass circuit event on lanier. late in the day I picked up a 3/8oz z-man chatterbait and landed a 5lb 2oz largemouth that won big fish and bumped us up with 18lbs 6oz that was enough for the win!
water temp - 44 water level - full
although we've had a very cold winter, the fishing is starting to pick up and the striper and spots are biting! the middle of the day has been the best bite for us lately, using a z-man 1/4oz jighead, sworming hornet swarm and 1/2oz fishhead spin teamed up with the new Z-man dieZel minnowz! 25-35ft of water around seems to be the ticket for that pattern and I expect it to only get better once February gets here. There are also some good jig fish to be caught around the timber edges on jigs, drop shots and jigging spoon. I prefer to use a 1/2oz Big Bass Baits Arky Jig. and we're fishing in 40-60ft of water. During February, we catch some of the biggest stripers of the year on small swimbaits and jerkbaits and it should really start to get good in the next few weeks. Give us a call to schedule a trip for the spring, openings go quick once the warm weather gets here.
over the past month we have taken a break from fishing and have had some great hunts all over the southeast. we've taken a few clients out for guided waterfowl trips this winter and we will be offering trips starting next fall for early goose and teal season. half and full day trips will be available on North Georgia public water. check out our guiding page and stay tuned throughout the summer for more info on the waterfowl hunts.
The weather is changing and the water temperature is falling, and that is the recipe for some incredible fall fishing! the morning has been great for spots feeding on shad and crawfish on the rocky point and shoals. a variety of baits will work from hard and soft jerkbaits, swimbaits down to a 1/2 oz Big Bass Baits Football jig. Keep your eye out in the afternoon, if you're in the right place at the right time, schooling stripers and spots can come up by the hundreds!
fall is here, the lake HAS TURNED OVER AND THE FISH ARE FEEDING UP FOR WINTER! THERE ARE A VARIETY OF TECHNIQUES WORKING RIGHT NOW. tOPWATER AND SWIMBAITS CAN BE THE SOME OF THE BEST ACTION, WITH VICIOUS SURFACE STRIKES AND A GOOD CHANCE AT TROPHY FISH. other PATTERNS THAT ARE WORKING WELL RIGHT NOW, ARE JERKBAITS, CRANKBAITS, FISH HEAD SPINS AND DROP SHOTS. WE ARE CATCHING BIG SPOTS AND STRIPERS ON WINDBLOWN POINTS AND SHOALS AROUND 20FT OF WATER, AND OVER THE BRUSH PILES ON THE SUNNY DAYS. I HAVE OPEN DATES STARTING November 5TH AND WILL BE GUIDING THROUGHOUT THE WINTER MONTHS. AS THE TEMPS DROP FOR THE WINTER THE JERKBAIT AND SPOON BITE CAN BE SOME EXCELLENT ACTION AND A LOT OF BITES!
Be sure to pick up gon's september issue to get an in depth look at lanier during the early fall transition. i had the pleasure of fishing with writer, ronnie garrision and we marked 10 hot spots/techniques for big spots on lanier in september

It seems that the short summer we‘ve had is coming to an end and the cooler weather is starting to show up. As the water temperature continues to cool, look for the bite to get better , and excellent topwater action is just around the corner! Late in the month till early November can be some of the best topwater and swimbait fishing that Lanier has to offer! Lately, the fishing has been good lately and we’re getting some big bites scattered in throughout the day. We have caught a number of 4lb+ largemouth and spots recently, and one spot just over 6lbs last week! Typically in the morning till 10 and again in the evening starting around 4 are your best times for quality fish. Some days are better than others, and depending on the amount of cloud cover, sometimes the bite can last all day.
The deep bite has been on and off, and they’ve seemed to roam more since we’ve had little bright sun to hold them to the structure. But there has been a positive to the clouds and rain we’ve had this year, and that’s current! The rain this year has created a steady flow coming down the rivers and many of the big spots have been in 20-30ft of water feeding in places near the main lake. Look for timber, brush and rocks near the deepest water around in the main channels. When the water is generating from the dam, look for the fish the be suspended above the structure and actively feeding on baitfish. The first bait I reach for is ¼ oz Z-Man Jigheadz or ½ oz Fish Head Spin rigged with an Opening Night 3” Minnowz. Let the bait sink down to the fish and use various retrieves from slow and steady to quick snaps of the rods to determine how the fish want it. When the bite gets tough work the same areas with a ½ oz Big Bass Baits Jig in Perfect Craw or ¼ oz drop shot rigged with a variety of baits from a 4 - 6in” straight tailed worm to a 3.75” Z-Man Streakz in Smokey shad. Many of the big fish off shore will start to set up on main lake/river points and humps and start to feed on bigger baits as the temperatures start to cool. This is also a good time of year to use live bait with kids or beginner anglers, it can provide anglers not only with a variety of fish but steady action and a good chance at a trophy !
All of the recent rain and high water have changed some aspects of the fishing compared to the past few years. A good number of fish have remained shallow through the summer and there are a variety successful patterns going on. The cooler than average summer months and newly submerged cover have the shallow fish holding around docks and shallow wood near the mouths of pockets. Throw topwaters, shallow crankbaits and soft jerkbaits like 5” Streakz early and late, then switch over to a Big Bass Baits 1/2oz jig and 3/16oz jighead with 7’’ Z-Man Finesse Wormz slow to pick apart the area during the day. You will have a good chance and both largemouth and spots, especially in the north end creeks. Also, remember that September is a major transition time, and as the temperatures drop as the month goes on, look for the baitfish to school up and begin to migrate towards the back of the pockets and creeks. Follow the fish as the leaves start to turn and look for the moving bait bite to continue to get better as fall gets here. Lures from shad swimbaits, spinnerbaits and jerkbaits can be hard to beat in the early fall!
October and November are right around the corner and are some of my favorite months to get out and catch a big bag on Lanier! Give me a call and lets chase some world class topwater and swimbait fish in the fall! God Bless!
temp -85 water level: Full
August has been a great month for livebait fishing with kids and some first some spotted bass fisherman! we've had a wide vairety of fish from Bass to Walleye, and a few trophys have been caught this month. One was a 6.25lb Spotted bass caught on the morning of 8/14 by Eric Sandberg! A single mark showing up around 30ft deep on the Lowrance hds touch 9, turned out to be a trophy of a lifetime! Good electronics are key to fishing on lanier and you wont find a better setup than the Lowrance HDS system! Top of the line navigation and maps to find the areas, and you cant beat the clairty of structure scan and sonar to find and stay on the fish!
temp- 84 water level: over full
The summer is here and the drop-shot bite is on! This is the best time of year to get out and take a kid fishing!
we are still catching some good topwater and swimbait fish, but most of our trips lately have been focusing on main lake points and humps in 20-30ft drop shotting livebait and small plastics that resemble small shad and spotails . They will bite in waves throughout the day, the best being early and late . its not uncommon to get 30-40 bites in a day from mostly spots and some stripers, walleye and catfish. Give us a call or check out our special offer for 3hr adult/child trips on Groupon!
temp: 75 water level : FULL POOL
The topwater and swimbait fishing has started and it is a full blown feeding frenzy on lanier! many of the fish have finished spawning and are gorging on herring at different times during the day! on recent trips we've had many limits weighing between 15-18lbs all on surface baits! this is the time of year that the spots really show off, like a pack of piranha's chasing your lure back to the boat! Come out and have an topwater experience of a lifetime or even get your kids on their first bass, now is the time!
temp :63 water level: FULL POOL
April has been an incredible on Lanier. We've had a big wave of both Largemouth and Spots come up and spawn and we have another wave on the way up right now. There has been 2 patterns going on for most of the month, fishing shallow flooded cover with Z-Man Streakz and Zinkerz weightless and fishing offshore humps and points in 10-20 ft with a Finesse Wormz rigged on a jighead. Topwater season is right around the corner, come on out for a trip of a lifetime chasing magnum spots and stripers on the surface!
temp :54 water level: -1.4ft
lanier slam - total 38.25lbs
striper 30lb largemouth 4lb spot 4.25lbs
It looks like spring has finally arrived and the water temps are climbing to the mid 50’s. This is time of year Lanier is famous for! Stripers and Spots are on fire right now. They are gorging on bait around windy points and pockets where the fish will be moving up to spawn later in April. Focus on main lake pockets and secondary points on the south end of the lake, also docks that provide shade are great in the spring. The baits of choice have been the Z-Man Streakz rigged weightless on a 4/0 wide gap hook, and jerkbaits like the Pointers and Vision 110’s. When the moving bait pattern is slow, switch up to Green Pumpkin 1/2oz jig and 3/16oz jighead rigged with a Finesse worm in the same areas. Look for some of the spawning bass to move up into the flooded brush and cover that’s become available with the water levels continuing to rise. Many of the Largemouth have started to pull up shallow and the bite has been steady on shallow crankbaits, spinnerbaits, weightless Streakz and a 1/2oz Big Bass Baits Finesse jig fished around docks and visible cover on the shorelines. On the north end of the lake, search the secondary points and back halves of creeks with the same lures. Later in the day the bite seems to be the best as the water warms to its highest point in the mid afternoon.
Keep your bait selection simple when going out in the spring. Stay on the move till you locate areas that are holding fish, find them and the bites will come. Look for slight water temperature and water color changes, and anytime baitfish are present, the bass aren’t far away! For Spots focus on the 10-25 ft range and look for the largemouth in less than 8 ft of water.
TEMP :49 WATER LEVEL : -6.1FT
Springtime is just around the corner and the bite is really picking up on the Lanier! Some of the first waves of fish are pulling up to the secondary points and pockets. March offers anglers a great shot at trophy fish on Lanier with opportunities for big spots, largemouth and stripers near the schools of bait fish in the warm water areas. The rising water has the fish on the move, and they will continue the get shallower as the warm weather comes. The north end has been a consistent bite for bass early in the day on moving baits like crankbaits, jerkbaits and fishhead spins. Concentrate on windy areas and as the day goes on, mix in a jig or shaky head on deeps points and docks.
Later in the month expect the swimbait bite to heat up as the females get ready for spawn. Try a variety of baits from paddle tails like the Z-Man Grass Kickerz rigged on a weighted Gamakatsu 5/0, to hard baits when the fish are keyed in on the herring. The new Bull Herring from Mike Bucca is the bait to reach for! I’ve had the pleasure OF workING with Mike on designing some exclusive color schemes and he has put in the time to test it to get it dialed in! This is one top of the line swimbait! Check them out AT WWW.BULLSHAD.COM AND WWW.XTREMELURECREATIONS.COM
TEMP :50 WATER LEVEL : -12.1FT
Winter is one of my favorite times for catching magnum spots on Lanier! The weather has remained mild so far, and with water temps in the 50’s the fish are still gorging! They can be easy to pattern, and if you’re willing to put in a little time to locate them you only need a few rods to have a successful trip.
Focus on two depth ranges 10-20 ft and 40-50ft. Narrow channels and ditches with timber are great places to start. Look for isolated groups of trees, timber edges, and/or rocks and you will find the bass. Target the ditches near points off the main lake and in the major creek arms. Many of the deep fish stay very consistent in their location and minor adjustments in tackle is all it takes when the weather conditions through you a curveball. On the brighter days, a 1/2oz jigging spoon, drop-shot and a jig are great for numbers with a several big ones mixed in. I typically don’t use anything heavier than 1/2oz in the winter as most of the fish aren’t willing to chase baits as far as they do other times of year. And the colder, overcast and rainy days that most anglers overlook, can be great for catching giants! Many of the fish will suspend and roam off of the bottom under darker conditions. Stick with a fish head spin, crankbait and jig fished slowly for the majority of your bites. Crankbaits diving 10-20ft in natural herring and crawfish patterns, are ideal when fishing the shallower ditches and rocky points in the winter. Most days it doesn’t produce as many bites as the jig and plastics, but it can get some of the giants that Lanier is famous for.
TEMP: 66 WATER LEVEL: -9.1FT
OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS WE'VE HAD SOME OF THE BEST TRIPS OF THE YEAR! TOPWATER AND SWIMBAIT FISHING HAS BEEN GREAT ON CLOUDY DAYS AND THE JIGS AND DROP SHOT ARE BEST WHEN THE SUN IS BRIGHT. THE TOPWATER FISHING ON LANIER IS WORLD CLASS WHEN THE CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT AND THE NEXT FEW WEEKS ARE SETTING UP TO BE PHENOMONAL! THE WATER TEMPS HAVE COOLED DOWN TO THE MID 60'S AND MANY OF THE FISH ARE MOVING HIGHER IN THE WATER COLUMN CHASING BAIT. FISH MAIN LAKE POINTS WITH ROCKS AND BRUSH TARGETING THE 15-25FT RANGE, DEPENDING ON WEATHER CONDITIONS. WE'VE BEEN USING A BIG BASS BAITS 1/2OZ ARKY JIG IN PERFECT CRAW AND ZMAN FINESSE WORMZ IN EZ MONEY AND DIRT COLOR. TOPWATER FISH HAVE BEEN ON A VARIETY OF BAITS LIKE A ZARA SPOOK, SAMMY, POP R AND SEBILE MAGIC SWIMMERS, AND THE BITE REMAINS STRONG ALL DAY WHEN THE CLOUDS ARE PRESENT. FISH MAIN LAKE ROCKS AND POINTS AND TOSS A ZMAN STREAKZ RIGGED WEIGHTLESS WHEN YOU SEE SCHOOLING FISH BREAKING ON THE SURFACE . A GREAT BAIT TO THROW AT THE SCHOOLING FISH AND ONE BAIT CAN LAST YOU SEVERAL TRIPS. ELAZTECH PLASTIC IS EXTREMELY DURABLE AND LIFELIKE IN THE WATER.

FALL WEATHER IS STARTING TO SHOW UP AND THE FISHING IS REALLY STARTING TO PICK UP! THE COOLER NIGHTS HAVE STARTED DROPPING THE WATER TEMPERATURES INTO THE MID TO LOW 70'S. OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER BRING SOME OF THE YEARS BEST TOPWATER AND SWIMBAIT FISHING, RECENT TRIPS HAVE PRODUCED A NUMBER OF TROPHY SPOTTED BASS IN THE 4-5LB CLASS! WE HAVE ALSO HAD MANY STRIPERS MIXED IN ASWELL, MOST FISH COMING ON SMALL TOPWATERS, JERKBAITS AND A 5IN ZMAN STREAKZ RIGGED ON AN 1/8OZ JIGHEADZ. THE ANGLER WHO COMES OUT ON TOP WILL LEAVE WITH $500,000! I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT THE GUYS WILL CATCH, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THE QUALITY FISH HAVE MOVED DEEP THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND CAN BE DIFFICULT TO CATCH AT TIMES. EXPECT THE GUYS WHO CAN AVERAGE 13-15LB TO HAVE A SHOT AT THE WIN.
THE DROP SHOT BITE HAS REMAINED STRONG FOR NUMBERS WITH SEVERAL IN 3-4LB RANGE, BUT OTHER BAITS LIKE JIGS, THE FISH HEAD SPIN AND TOPWATER HAVE BEEN THE BEST FOR A SHOT AT BIGGER FISH. THERE ARE STILL SOME FISH SHALLOW IF THE BLUEGILL ARE PRESENT, BUT THEY CAN BE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.

THE RECENT HEAT WAVE HAS SLOWED THE TOPWATER BITE DOWN, BUT THE FISHING IS GETTING BETTER OUT DEEP. DEEP BRUSH AND NATURAL STRUCTURE HAS BEEN HOLDING THE BEST FISH. 28FT+ HAS PRODUCED THE BIGGER BITES ON THE LAST FEW TRIPS. THROW 1/2OZ BBB FOOTBALL JIG, DROP SHOT AND A FISH HEAD SPIN RIGGED WITH A ZMAN OPENING NIGHT MINNOWZ. THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL LARGE SCHOOLS HANGING OUT IN THE 20-25FT BRUSH WITH AN OCCASIONAL BIG FISH MIXED IN. THE CAN BE ALOT OF FUN ON A DROPSHOT, AND ITS A GREAT WAY TO INTRODUCE KIDS TO FISHING!

MOST OF THE FISH ARE STILL HOLDING IN THE SAME AREAS THEY HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS. FOCUS ON BRUSH OFF MAIN LAKE POINTS AND HUMPS IN 22-30FT OF WATER. SOME OF THE BEST FISHING CAN BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY EVEN WITH HEAVY BOAT TRAFFIC AND THE HOT SUMMER WEATHER RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. WITH THE HELP OF SEVERAL GOOD FRIENDS , WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A GROUP OF 8 GUYS FROM WINNIPEG, MANITOBA THAT WERE VISITING ATLANTA ON BUSINESS. WHAT MADE THE TRIP EVEN BETTER WAS THAT NONE OF THEM HAD EVER FISHED FOR SPOTTED BASS.
WE GOT OUT AND FISHED FROM 9AM TIL 1PM ON SATURDAY AND HAD A SOME GREAT TOPWATER ACTION FISHING SPOOKS, POPPERS AND SMALL SWIMBAITS ON ROCK POINTS WITH BRUSH AND HUMPS WITH TIMBER CLOSE BY. SOME OF OUR BEST ACTION WAS AROUND NOON, WITH SEVERAL OTHER NICE FISH BEING CAUGHT ON SHAKY HEADS IN 20-25 FT OF WATER. ONE OF THE KEY THINGS TO CATCHING THEM THIS TIME OF YEAR IS TO STAY ON THE MOVE. IF YOURE IN AN AREA THAT YOU KNOW FISH ARE AND THEYRE NOT BITING, KEEP MOVING TIL YOU FIND AN ACTIVE SCHOOL. GIVE IN AN HOUR OR SO AND GO BACK TO AREAS YOU FISHED EARLIER, SOMETIMES HITTING A KEY SPOT 4 OR 5 TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. "COUNTRY FRIED CLETUS" , AIRING LATER THIS YEAR ON WFN. THE FISHING WASNT GREAT BUT WE HAD A BLAST OUT ON THE WATER, CLINT DOES KNOW HOW TO KEEP YOU LAUGHING! WE HAD SEVERAL BIG BLOWUPS FROM SPOTS AND STRIPERS, ONLY ONE HOOKUP, BUT IT WAS A GOOD 3.5-4LB SPOT THAT NAILED
A 8IN SWIMBAIT ON THE SURFACE. ANYBODY WHO THROWS BIG BAITS ON LANIER KNOWS THAT SOMEDAYS YOU HOOK THEM, SOME DAYS YOU DONT. BUT THATS WHAT KEEPS US COMING BACK FOR MORE!
THE BITES WE HAD WERE OVER OFF-SHORE HUMPS WITH BRUSH AND TIMBER CLOSE BY. WE FOCUSED ON THE MAIN LAKE AREA NEAR THE DAM AND HUMPS THAT TOPPED IN 20-25 FT SEEMED TO BE THE TICKET.
IM GLAD TO ANNOUNCE THAT IVE JOINED THE Z-MAN FISHING PRO-STAFF FOR 2012. IM LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SUMMER TESTING OUT SOME OF THEIR NEW PRODUCTS ON LAKE LANIER. Z-MAN HAS COME UP WITH A CUTTING EDGE PLASTIC CALLED ELAZTECH, WHICH IS 10X STRONGER THAN THE COMPETITION. THEY OFFER LARGE VARIETY OF BAITS, IN A RANGE OF COLORS DESIGNED BY SOME OF THE TOP TOURING PROS. IF YOU WANT TO SAVE TIME RIGGING AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MONEY ON THE WATER, BE SURE TO CHECK THEM OUT AT http://www.zmanfishing.com/cms/

THE FISHING HAS REMAINED STRONG OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, AND THE TOPWATER BITE IS STARTING TO REALLY PICK UP. I GOT OUT WITH A CLIENT ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND HAD SEVERAL GOOD TOPWATER FISH OVER MAIN LAKE BRUSH IN 18-25 FT OF WATER. SHAD COLOR SPOOKS AND A Z-MAN GRASS KICKERZ RIGGED ON A 3/8OZ FISH HEAD SPIN HAVE BEEN THE TICKET WHEN THEY GO BACK DOWN IN THE BRUSH. WE DID CATCH SOME FISH ON SHALLOW ROCKS ASWELL, AND OUR BIGGEST OF THE DAY, JUST OVER 5LBS ON A TOPWATER. THE 1/2OZ JIG AND A 3/16OZ JIGHEAD WITH FINESSE WORMZ HAVE BEEN CATCHING SEVERAL NICE FISH AS ALWAYS. ALSO HAD THE PLEASURE OF WATCHING A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL CATCH HER FIRST SPOT LAST WEEK ON THE TRUSTY JIG HEAD, THAT WAS A BLAST!
EXPECT MORE NUMBERS OF FISH TO START SHOWING UP ON THESE DEEPER POINTS AND HUMPS AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE END OF THE MONTH, AS MOST OF THE FISH WILL BE DONE SPAWNING. GET READY! THE SWIMBAIT AND REDFIN BITE IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!
IN THE GAMBLER LURES TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY, OUT OF OUR 5 FISH FOR 14.4 LBS WE HAD A GOOD MIX OF SOME FROM DEEPER POINTS AND OTHERS WERE FROM SHALLOW DOCKS AND ROCK POINTS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A STRONG PATTERN EITHER WAY YOU CHOOSE TO FISH. WITH LIMITED TACKLE, ( REQUIRED TOURNAMENT RULES ) ALL THE FISH SATURDAY WERE ON THE GREEN PUMPKIN WORM ON 1/4OZ JIGHEAD AND TEXAS RIG CREATURE BAIT FOR THE SHALLOW FISH. WE MANAGED 7TH PLACE, ONE BIG FISH SHORT OF THE 17+ LB MARK THAT IT TOOK FOR THE WIN. I HAVE SEVERAL TRIPS LINED UP IN THE NEXT FEWS WEEKS, BUT STILL HAVE SOME OPEN DATES. IM EXPECTING THE TOPWATER AND BIG SWIMBAIT BITE TO BE PHENOMONAL THIS YEAR. LETS GET OUT AND CATCH SOME!
TEMP - 72 WATER LEVEL : -5.5FT
80 DEGREES IN MARCH IS SOMETHING I CAN GET USED TO! WITH THE WARM WEATHER THE WATER TEMPS HAVE COME ALL THE WAY UP TO THE LOW 70'S. SPRING IS HERE AND MANY OF THE FISH ARE SPAWNING , SOME HAVE ALREADY COME AND GONE. SEEMS THERES GOING TO BE A BIG WAVE OF SPOTS PULLING UP OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, THIS IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR FOR A GIANT! IVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT A FEW TIMES RECENTLY TO DO SOME FILMING AND WEVE HAD SEVERAL FISH OVER 6 LBS, INCLUDING ONE OVER 7LB THAT WAS BIG FISH IN A TOURNAMENT SATURDAY. THERE ARE PLENTY OF FISH UP SHALLOW, GREAT FOR NUMBERS BUT YOU HAVE TO WEED THROUGH THEM FOR SIZE. 4-6IN HUDDLESTON AND Z MAN SWIMBAITS, SHAKEY HEAD FINESSE WORMS AND TEXAS RIGGED ZINKERZ HAVE BEEN BEST ON SHALLOW FISH. FISHING SUNNY POCKETS WITH DOCKS IS A GREAT WAY TO PICK UP FISH QUICK, BY KEYING IN ON THE SHALLOW SIDE OF THE DOCK. ALSO THERES BEEN A STEADY BITE ON ROCK/CLAY POINTS ON THE SOUTH END. CAUGHT AN AVERAGE OF 20+ SPOTTED BASS A DAY UP TO 4.5 LBS FISHING JERKBAITS, JIGS AND SHAKEY HEADS IN GREEN PUMPKIN RED AND SAND. TARGETING POINTS AND DOCKS NEAR SPAWNING AREAS THAT ARE PROTECTED FROM STRONG WINDS, ALSO THROWING A JERKBAIT AROUND DOCKS CAN BE A DEADLY PATTERN THIS TIME OF YEAR WHEN THE CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT!
I HAVE SOME OPEN DATES IN APRIL AND WILL BE GUIDING, ANYONE THAT WANTS TO GET ON LANIER, NOW IS THE TIME! MOST TRIPS HAVE BEEN OFFERING CHANCES AT BOTH SPECIES IN THE 5LB PLUS RANGE!
TEMP - 56 WATER LEVEL : - 6.40FT
LANIER IS ON THE VEGRE OF BUSTING WIDE OPEN! THE WATER TEMPS ARE BACK UP INTO MID 50'S AND THE FISHING IS AS STRONG AS ITS EVER BEEN! THE LOCAL TOURNAMENTS HAVE BEEN TAKING 17-18LB TO GET IN THE MONEY AND OVER 20 LBS TO WIN. THE WEEK BEFORE LAST WE HAD 21.5 LBS AND FINISHED 3RD! LAST SEVERAL TRIPS WE HAVE AVERAGED 20-30 FISH A DAY ON JERKBAITS ON SECONDARY POINTS AND MAIN LAKE POCKETS. THE LUCKY CRAFT POINTER 100 AND JACKALL SQUAD MINNOW HAVE BEEN THE BAITS OF CHOICE WITH MANY OF THE BITES COMING ON THE PAUSE. WE HAVE ALSO CAUGHT NICE FISH ON 1/2OZ BBB JIG AROUND DEEPER DOCKS AND SOME IN THE DEEPER TIMBER. TRY THE DOCKS LEADING INTO POCKETS AND CREEKS, ALSO SOME NICE FISH COMING EARLY ON THE SWARM RIGGED WITH ZMAN GRASS KICKERZ IN THE OPENING NIGHT COLOR. ONCE YOU LOCATE A GROUP OF FISH, BRING IT THROUGH THE SCHOOL KEEPING IT MOVING AT A STEADY PACE, AND DONT BE SURPRISED IF YOU GET 2...OR 3 IN ONE CAST!!
LAKE HARTWELL CLEMSON, SC
HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE 1ST ANNUAL TRANS ATLANTIC BASS TOUR. DAY 2 AT LAKE HARTWELL WAS A BLAST! I FISHED WITH NEIL ENGELBRECHT OF NAMIBIA, A GREAT ANGLER WHO WAS EXPERIENCING FISHING IN THE STATES FOR THE FIRST TIME. HE, ALONG WITH 6 OTHER GUYS FROM AFRICA HAD MARSHALLED IN THE BASSMASTER CLASSIC THE WEEK BEFORE. WE GOT OFF TO A GOOD START AND WERE ABLE TO FIND A SOLID PATTERN EARLY WITH THE JIG ON DEEP ROCKS AND CRANKBAIT ON WOOD. BEFORE 12PM WE HAD A 18 LB LIMIT (7 FISH), NOT INCLUDING THE 7+ THE CAME OFF IN THE NET!?... EITHER WAY WE HAD A GREAT TIME, AND LEARNED ALOT ABOUT THE LAKE. I LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER CHANCE NEXT YEAR. SHOULD BE SOME GREAT BAGS WEIGHED IN THIS WEEK IN THE FLW TOUR EVENT.

THE COLD FRONT OVER THE WEEKEND MAY HAVE DROPPED THE WATER TEMP A FEW DEGREES BUT IT HASNT SEEMED TO SLOW THE FISH DOWN! WE HAD SOME GREAT WEATHER THIS AFTERNOON FISHING THE GAINESVILLE AREA ON THE CHATTAHOOCHEE. WE FISHED ON SECONDARY ROCK AND CLAY POINTS WITH A 1/2oz BBB JIG IN GREEN PUMPKIN ORANGE , ALSO FISH HEAD SPIN AND SWARM RIGGED WITH Z-MAN GRASS KICKERZ ANYWHERE FROM 8-15 FT. WE ALSO MANAGED A FEW GOOD BITES ON DOCKS WITH A 3/16 OZ SKAKEY HEAD WITH FINESSE WORM FISHED SLOW AND ONE 6+ LB LARGEMOUTH ON A 3 WAY SWIMBAIT RIG FISHED AROUND A LAYDOWN TREE INTO 15FT OF WATER. I WILL HAVE SOME OPEN DATES AFTER THE BFL, GIVE ME A CALL AND LETS GET OUT AND CATCH SOME!
